Meet The Team

Michael and Helen Hawes—founders and directors of the business.

Michael HawesHe fell in love with Helen and then accounting seemed the obvious next step!  He faithfully studied through the years of raising three small children and is now a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.  He has a wealth of experience in both practice and industry before setting up the business with Helen.  In 1987 we were one of the few accounting businesses to have a computer – it cost us over £2000 and was a big investment for a starting business., but Michael is always looking for ways to do things better and use the opportunities that are available.

Outside of the office, he is Chairman of  Viva Arts and Community Group and part of the leadership of High Street Church at Isleham and actively involved in their incredible building project.  Do have a look at for more details.  He loves the outdoors, sailing with Helen, walking and wildlife.

Helen HawesHer dream ever since she first fell in love with accounting, was to run her own business where she could go round helping businesses and relieving their owners from the paperwork and financial worries that threatened to engulf them and setting them free to do the things  they love and do best.  That dream started in 1987 and has grown since then to become the business we are today.

Helen is a member of the Association of Accounting Technicians, Association of Taxation Technicians, and a Fellow of the Association of Charity Independent Examiners.

When she’s not in the office, she can often be found sailing the Norfolk Broads, either with Michael, or  helping to lead young people’s holidays enabling them to learn to sail and enjoy the wonder of God’s beautiful creation.  She’s participated in the Three Rivers Race for several years so look out for her on the webcams of the event!

Matt Sugg
Matt is the dynamic force leading the team at our Cottenham office.  He began his accounting career with us when he left school and is now a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.  We’ve been delighted in watching him grow, get married and develop his role as a very significant part of the business.

Barbara McWhinney
Barbara is the whizz of all things to do with limited companies, although she can, of course, turn her hand to anything.  If you’ve a query with some of the finer points of company regulation regarding accounts, she’s your person.  She now shares her time between the Soham and Cottenham office, but never fear; she’s always on the end of the phone if you don’t catch her in person.

Jenny Hill
Jenny came to us on leaving university and has been with us ever since.  Small in stature but big in heart and commitment to everything she does.  She’s even come in when she should have been on holiday, just to ensure a filing deadline isn’t missed!  Jenny is a member of the Association of Accounting Technicians and the Queen of payroll and book-keeping at the Cottenham office; so if you have any problems in that area, she’ll be more than happy to assist you.  Outside the office, she’s Brown Owl to a pack of Brownies.

Francesca Gammon
Another one of our little gems who came to us after finishing A levels and has been with us ever since.  We got to enjoy another wedding recently as she walked up the aisle.  Fran is the “twin” of Jenny but at the Soham office, so if you’ve any problems with payroll or book-keeping do give her a call.  She is also a member of the Association of Accounting Technicians.  Apart from her new husband, her best friend is Millie—her King Charles spaniel.

Jasmine Howard
Our newest recruit; she has only been with us a few months to date but is starting the journey towards her  Accounting Technician qualification after two years’ experience in the banking world.  Her attention to detail and desire to learn is making her a valued part of the team already and her bright and bubbly personality enlivens us all.

Susan Snooks
Last but definitely not least and probably should be first of all.  She’s the one who holds both offices and the entire team together.  She is not just someone who answers the phone or types a letter, but someone who knows  the “ins and outs” of all that’s going for our clients and does  her very best to keep Michael and Helen in the right place at the right time.  She’s given up the roller skating now but she gets so much done in the day you would think she’s still on them!  If you need it organising, Sue’s the one who can do it and “get a quart into a pint pot” as well.
